 <title>Space Technology Centre at i-SAIRAS</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Staff from the Space Technology Centre recently attended the 10th International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence Robotics and Automation for Space (i-SAIRAS), which was held from 29 August - 1 September 2010 in Sapporo, Japan. Mark McCrum presented a paper entitled &#039;Mars Visual Simulation for Exomars Navigation Algorithm Validation&#039; at the conference.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The conference is held every two years and is jointly organised by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA-ASC), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), ESA, JAXA and NASA.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>Space Technology Centre at SpaceWire-2010</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Staff at the Space Technology Centre joined over 150 delegates at the House of Scientists in St. Petersburg for the 3rd International SpaceWire Conference. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Dr. Steve Parkes presented two papers on behalf on the Space Technology Centre, entitled &#039;SpaceFibre&#039; and &#039;SpaceWire-D:Deterministic Data Delivery with SpaceWire&#039;, whilst Albert Ferrer, a PhD student at the Space Technology Centre, presented a paper on &#039;SpaceWire-D Prototyping&#039;.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>Staff attend ICATT, 3 - 6 May 2010</title>

&lt;p&gt;Dr. Martin Dunstan, Dr. Nick Rowell and Dr. Steve Parkes attended the conference at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Madrid, Spain. Martin presented the paper &#039;PANGU: Planet and Asteroid Natural Scene Generation Utility&#039;.&lt;/p&gt;

This annual one-day conference aims to bring together Astronomers, Space Scientists and those with an interest in astronomy from across Scotland to present work and to view a broad selection of current happenings in Scottish astronomy. &lt;p&gt;Staff from the Space Technology Centre answered questions on Space Exploration from Blairgowrie High School pupils in a live web chat session. Five pupils participated in a discussion that ranged from what astronauts eat in space, to the prospects of finding life on other planets, to what kind of cheese the moon is made of. All the participants enjoyed the exchange, which is the latest in a number of activities with Blairgowrie High including pupil visits to both the Space Systems Research Lab and the Satellite Receiving Station.&lt;br class=&quot;giImageBlock-clear-both&quot; /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>CEOI Steering Committee</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;The Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) is a new initiative jointly funded by NERC and the DIUS (formerly DTI). The aim of CEOI is to provide an excellent, internationally competitive Earth obsevation instrument and instrument technology research and development programme. Steve Parkes has been appointed to the CEOI steering committee.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>Space Technology Centre awarded HARVD grant from Astrium SAS/ESA</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;The Space Technology Centre has won funding from Astrium SAS as part of the European Space Agency (ESA) HARVD study. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;HARVD (High-integrity, Autonomous, multi-range RendezVous &amp;amp; Docking) aims to develop a European capability for autonomous orbital rendezvous and docking. It is intended that computer vision techniques will be used during the rendezvous process.&lt;/p&gt;
