Ray Manston

Ray Manston is a research assistant working on digital electronics systems for data processing systems and spacecraft on-board networks for SpaceWire. Ray is experienced in hardware design and has worked on much of the equipment developed at the Space Technology Centre for use in test and development of SpaceWire systems. His other roles include interface with manufacturing and assembly facilities used to make this equipment, procurement, and testing.

2000-2001:  Lucent Technologies Ltd, - Senior Hardware Engineer

Lucent manufactured a range of computer networking and communications products.
Board level hardware design, and providing hardware assistance as necessary to the software engineers.

1998-2000:  3Com  Ltd - Senior Development Engineer

3Com manufactured a range of computer networking and communications products.
General board-level hardware design and  co-ordination with data control, component engineering, production engineering and test engineering to ensure optimum design for manufacture and testability with full documentation.

1996-1997:  Roke Manor Research Ltd. - FPGA/Hardware Designer

Roke Manor are the European research and development centre for Siemens, and provide contract R&D for both government and commercial organisations.
Working on Asynchronous Transfer Mode telecommunications hardware - involving ASIC Test Bench development and FPGA Design.

1983-1995: Marconi Space & Defence Systems - Electronics Design & Development Engineer

Hardware design and development for military systems and prototype 2D infrared imaging equipment  used for techniques research by the MoD’s Defence Research Agency.

 1981-1982: Burroughs Machines Ltd - Test Technician

Testing and debugging to component level a range of PCB’s used as control circuitry in computer disk drive units.
